You forgive children and understand the weaknesses of adults while holding them responsible for their actions.

The word adult is misleading. It's a word used to describe one who is legally responsible for his or her actions. That's it. It doesn't in anyway confer or guarantee that a person, while gladly accepting the perks afforded adults, will accept any responsibility.

Parentified children learn to take responsibility for themselves and others early on. They tend to fade into the woodwork and let others take center stage. This extends into adulthood - adult children may put others' needs before their own. They may have difficulty accepting care and attention.
