You probably aren't going to see instant [success] overnight. Unfortunately, I'm not too sure how patient people at Nebraska will be.

It does not happen overnight. You look at what we were doing our first year here and what we were doing at Stanford, it probably wasn't even 25 percent [of the offense].

The West Coast offense in general is extremely wordy, a lot of terms, and usually it's much different than most other systems, especially an option system. That will be new for everybody.

They found out they can't count on what's happened in the past, ... When you have success, you think it will happen again. It didn't.

. . . it's worth recognizing that there is no such thing as an overnight success. You will do well to cultivate the resources in yourself that bring you happiness outside of success or failure. The truth is, most of us discover where we are headed when we arrive. At that time, we turn around and say, yes, this is obviously where I was going all along. It's a good idea to try to enjoy the scenery on the detours, because you'll probably take a few.

Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can't lose.
