Young men today are growing up with Oklahoma, much the same way young men grew up with Florida State in the '90s. Eleven-, 12-year-old kids, by the time they get to high school, Oklahoma is already on their minds.

When you look at programs like Nebraska, Oklahoma and Florida State and Ohio State and others and you see the retired numbers there, we felt like this was a logical progression that we needed to really consider. We have a great football heritage, and maybe we need to start recognizing that more so.

Rhett has a tendency, like all young quarterbacks, to go in there and try to do everything at once, ... He'll want to get it all done in one quarter, and we're going to give him more time than that.

It's great for San Diego State and it's great for the new regime. It's a great way to kick off Labor Day weekend. Any time you can get on national television and have a chance to sell your program, it's a plus.
