Young people will typically show up in larger numbers in national elections, when they perceive the stakes to be higher.

When people look at local government, they're not looking at party affiliation or ideology. They're looking at the character of their local officials and the quality of services they receive. I guess we could throw in tax rates as a third factor. And if it happens to be that Republican office-holders are satisfying local voters, then so be it. People will cross party lines.

A key issue in the upcoming city elections will be the discussion of this question - how much growth can Harrisonburg sustain before it has to sit back and digest it?

There will no going back and no new elections. The results must be accepted and the will of the people must be respected.
