A targeted program might make sense to get computers to students who really need one, and it would be a lot less expensive.

We certainly believe all students should have a computer or easy access [to one], but we don't think this plan has been well thought out. We haven't seen proof that all students actually need their own computers.

The students are far more adept at computers than we are.

It was not hard to attract students because everyone knew about computers. But it was very hard to attract faculty because there were no 'computer scientists' at that time -- just knowledgeable people who had jobs in industry and had learned computing on their own.

I believe in keeping the cohorts of students together.
