As a species, we've always been discoverers and adventurers, and space and the deep ocean are some of the last frontiers.

It was really just pushing frontiers, that's all we were doing.

Things are never as they seem. A person. A Mark. A statement. They are always deeper than we perceive, like walking in the ocean and suddenly dipping under the surface because the bottom has disappeared beneath your feet. The water appears shallow until you are suddenly flailing around beneath the surface, desperately searching for stable ground once again.

Surfing soothes me, it's always been a kind of Zen experience for me. The ocean is so magnificent, peaceful, and awesome. The rest of the world disappears for me when I'm on a wave.

Aviation - and space travel, in particular - have always been especially captivating.

We've had some tough times, but we've hung in there.
