Culture is a way of thinking, a set of values, a belief system that influences our behavior. It's really a combination of things. It can come from our ethnic background, our religion and society as a whole.

The promiscuity of men in both these cultures is generally more acceptable. The thinking is that's OK for men to have side dishes. And that puts women at risk because many of these men don't use condoms. The two cultures are similar because there is a need for female empowerment so women can be assertive in their negotiating skills to get men to use condoms and be tested.

It can be minimized. Once people look in their own backyards and see that it's affecting their neighbors.

And Hispanic women are right behind them catching up.

There is a demand. Muslims' values and belief systems are different, and many of them have refrained from entering the world of finance using conventional mortgages and interest-bearing accounts.

One of the issues we're going to have to address is institutional culture, which makes it easier for such behavior. Institutions haven't really dealt with these issues in a forthright manner. They're closing their eyes to it, or only opening them slightly.
