Gas is the best answer I can give you. Coal was replaced by gas in the mid 1960s, and at the time it was cheaper and easier. You didn't have to put coal up on the fire every day.

Coal isn't going away. Neither is natural gas. But we can become less dependent on them.

Coal is going to be the predominantly competing fuel, and this raises the issue of how much gas is going to get used in China.

If you don't want to burn uranium, you can burn coal or gas and melt the ice caps and break the bank, ... A truckload of uranium fuels a nuclear plant for two years, as compared to a trainload of coal every day.
