It's important to look at this from an evolutionary perspective and to think about plants making choices both before and after infection. We may have bred this ability out of our crops.

The most effective strain is not always best at competing for nodules. Is it the plant or the microbe that determines this? Have we bred out of crop plants the ability to choose their root bacteria?

In the perspective of every person lies a lens through which we may better understand ourselves.

Life is funny. I'd applied to the wrong graduate program, but that eventually led me to the right grad program. I'd taken what I thought was the wrong undergraduate major, and that was the thing that set me apart and allowed me to find my niche.
