A well-executed joke is the thrill of chains, which rattled beneath your seat when the roller coaster jolted you up to the sky and then dropped you in a gut-wrenched swirl of sideways and up and down motions before it vanished and left you with a throbbed pulse and a grin of approval from the overall experience that no matter how many times revisited, could never amount to being as amazing as the first time.
