People seem really excited and supportive. It shows me a really good, strong grass-roots effort.

I think the citizens felt they wanted more input on city decisions. I think they're uniformly concerned about development that hasn't been planned or as thoughtful as it could be.

Being involved is the first good step toward running for the city council.

It was amazing. We had Christian contractors and other businesses donating their time. It really was an ecumenical effort.

A teacher always has to make the effort. Whether it's Chicano history or any other. We don't want to go back to the way things were, back when black kids got hand-me-down text books after white kids had used them ? if they got textbooks at all.

Right now we are concentrating all of our effort on keeping our head above the water and trying to keep our doors open.
