Reading some of the descriptions, it's just hard to figure out was that a 20-year-old guy who had sex with a 17-year-old girlfriend or was it a lewd and lascivious situation or, even worse, sexual battery.

It's not an attempt to say one crime is worse than another. It gives the public more information to make their own decisions.

There needs to be more information to give citizens a better idea of what risk an offender poses to them.

I teach 18- to 21-year-olds - the 'Harry Potter' generation. They grew up as voracious readers, reading books in this exploding genre. But at some point, I would love for them to give Umberto Eco or A.S. Byatt a try. I hope 'A Discovery of Witches' will serve as a kind of stepping-stone.
