The number one factor driving the AGV industry is the cost of personnel. They're not necessarily replacing existing workers. They're doing some tasks that people used to do so a company can expand without adding staff.

You're poking around in dumpsters, driving around places that are not even a mile from your house. My eyes were really opened to the fact that we really do have working poor here in Plano. A lot of people think that this is nothing but a large Highland Park, and it's not like that.

We saw people driving while doing all kinds of stuff. What you're seeing is the cleaned-up version.

My job is to grow this business. We've got programs with great opportunities and that's what I want workers to keep focused on.

This year's theme is bread and roses [inspired by the 'Bread and Roses' strike by American women textile workers in 1912]. The bread stands for the need for affordable food, and the roses represent the need to be dignified and the call for social justice.

There are a lot of different companies driving the market. It's not just manufacturing but also distribution and trade, and I think that portends very well for the local economy.
