They were just running right by us.

We knew we could hang with them. And -- of course -- we knew they could hang with us. If you're going to win this thing, you have to beat them.

We didn't want to have to press them until the second half. We tried a zone press early, but they killed us.

To my right, I noticed a dog, low to the ground, running at us at top speed. He had found his way through the butterfly gate in the baseball field where our son played Babe Ruth Baseball for so many years. I remember thinking that, with the velocity at which this animal was moving, this could not be good.

The distance runners are running really well right now. Overall, it was just a fantastic weekend for us. Out of the five events we competed in, we had four personal bests, two school records and a provisional national qualifying mark. The real reason we came here was to run fast and throw far, and we did that this weekend.

I was running across the field right at two players and I hit both of them and I didn't slow down. I caught them sideways. It even hurt me a little. I was seeing stars for a few seconds.
