We get maybe 400-500 letters and e-mails a year from young people who tell us how going to their school has made a difference in their lives.

He also wanted to teach those kids good sportsmanship and good citizenship. And it's something he's still doing today.

He wanted those kids to play together and work hard together.

My father would leave home for seven or eight months of the year trying to pursue his hockey career. We only saw him in the off season and I had no idea what he was going through until my early teens. That's when I started collecting stories and articles written about my father. I have over a thousand of them.

My son was preparing for this, he told us that people were after his life, but yet he was not prepared to stay off the political platform.

People were calling us right and left and he obviously got hundreds of letters. I don't know how many college coaches we had come through last spring, 15-20. Not small schools, but big Division I schools. He had a lot of interest, particularly Florida and Miami.
