In the end it may well be that Britain will be honored by historians more for the way she disposed of an empire than for the way in which she acquired it

What historians will look at is her contributions in these other things. Historians will understand and explore the full dimensions and not just the perfectly made up, dignified widow.

Someday when historians record the decline of the American steel industry, President Bush will have the infamous distinction of contributing to the decimation of our industry and the loss of American jobs.

We will leave that to historians.

I'm cautiously optimistic that it will work out well for the industry.
