Remember the candy stripers? Well, we don't call them that anymore. They're junior volunteers.

It used to be a county hospital, but it's no county hospital anymore.

I remember candy rationing until I was, like, 7.

All of our volunteers have to do a special project in order to become active members of the Junior League. It was the provisional class of 2003 that came up with the food festival concept.

I vividly remember coming for an interview [for his job] - many interviews - and I was asked if I would be 'prepared to try some biologically sustainable farming'. I hadn't got a clue what it meant, so I said, 'Yes, of course,' as you do in those situations. That was my introduction to organics.

There are probably 35 to 40 volunteers who are on standby now.
