The total last year was about 15 inches, and that puts it down as the 15th driest year on record. So with that dry last year combined with what we were experiencing so far this year, it really does not portend very well for the future.

The total for the year is only 19.46 inches. Of this amount, only .13 of an inch fell in December on three dates. The driest month of 2005 was November, when no moisture was recorded. The next driest month was April, with only .12 of an inch of rain.

This is the driest March on record. We are in the early stages of a drought.

Last year was sort of wet in the spring, and this year may end up being one of the driest Marches in history.

(Monday's) 1.81 inches was a record for this calendar date. The previous record was for 1.50 inches in 1979.

Usually in October, you have more sunshine and it's one of the driest months of the year in the eastern U.S.. So all of this is unusual for this time of year.
